Projects

InBioVeritas is actually engaged in two research projects for the conservation of biodiversity in the Mata Atlântica:

The Biological Collection Network of Paraná passes information contained within museum collections to the scientific community by means of the Internet portal

TaxOnline http://www.taxonline.ufpr.br/

Among the developmental stages of this project are included the organization of the material and of the support infrastructure, as well as making the information available on the Internet. Digitization of the collection data as well as that of all labelled specimens for computer storage is the requisite first-step for the realization of that goal.

In the project

SOLOBIOMA http://www.solobioma.ufpr.br

Brazilian and German scientists competent in soil science, biogeochemistry, botany and soil zoology are working together to enhance the knowledge basis for environmental protection and the management of conservation areas. To sustain the biodiversity of the Mata Atlântica through protection of old-growth forests and regeneration of secondary forests a much better understanding of biochemical and hydrological cycles and of the structure and dynamic of the ecosystem is needed.

The specimens of earthworms, spiders, ants and beetles sampled in the project SOLOBIOMA are deposited in several scientific collections in Brazil and the taxonomic and ecological information linked to these specimens has to be conserved and made available by databases. To develop concepts for this task and achieve a sound and secure information mangement for the application in conservation planning is an important field for InBioVeritas.
