InBioVeritas - in the pure sense of the CBD - integrates the following activities:
-
Basic research in taxonomy, natural history, biogeochemistry and ecosystem services,
-
Applied research for conservation management and sustainable use,
-
Environmental education and raising of public awareness.
Taxonomy - the classification of life, focusing on describing species, their genetic variability, and their inter-relationships. Including biosystematics at the genetic, species and ecosystem levels, it is a late-breaking science in times of global species loss and climate change. Scientific collections are the base of every biodiversity research. They enable scientific identification and document the geographical and temporal distribution of species by voucher specimens.
InBioVeritas is active in this field by its project www.TaxOnline.ufpr.br - the network of the scientific collections of the state of Paraná, Brazil.
Conservation of biodiversity - protecting old growth forests and regenerating secondary forests in the Mata Atlântica deserves better cognition of structure and dynamics of the ecosystem and its cycles of matter.
InBioVeritas is active in this field by its project www.solobioma.ufpr.br - a research cooperation funded by the German BMBF and Brazilian CNPq.
The Society of Wildlife Research and Environmental Education www.SPVS.org.br provides a field laboratory for an ecosystem approach in its reserves at the coast of Paraná. This allows for direct implementation of the outcomes.
One of the main tasks of the State Museum of Natural History Karlsruhe www.smnk.de is to advance the understanding of the diversity and history of life through biological and geological research and to communicate the results and existing knowledge to the public through exhibitions, courses and events.
In the field of dissemination of research activities and results the museum and SPVS bring their competence and experience into InBioVeritas.
